Know before you buy
Don’t be fooled by a familiar name.
Just because the name stayed local doesn’t mean the money did.
An HVAC company can keep the name you’ve known for years after being sold to a larger investment group. The trucks may look the same, while ownership—and where the profits go—has changed.
Before accepting a quote, ask who owns the company today. Different names may lead back to the same parent company.

Why can a new system cost more?
Your quote includes the equipment, labor and installation work your home needs. Efficiency choices, newer equipment designs and refrigerant requirements can affect the cost. Ask for the system, included work, warranty and exclusions in writing.
Added safety components, compatible tools and technician preparation can contribute to cost. The amount depends on the equipment and installation—not a standard percentage that applies to every home.
Read Carrier’s guide to equipment and installation costsWhat changed with the new refrigerants?
Many new air conditioners and heat pumps use R-32 or R-454B, refrigerants with a lower climate impact than R-410A. They are classified as mildly flammable. Systems are designed for them, with compatible service tools, appropriate training and safety measures such as leak detection where required.
These refrigerants belong in equipment designed for them. They are not drop-in replacements for R-410A. Proper installation and service matter; the refrigerant alone does not guarantee lower energy bills.
Read Rheem’s explanation of the refrigerant changesCan I keep my current system—and where could I save?
A refrigerant change alone is no reason to throw away a working system. Existing R-410A equipment can still be serviced and repaired. We help you weigh its condition, repair costs and your comfort needs before deciding what to spend.
Sometimes the value is a worthwhile repair. When replacement makes sense, compare equipment sized for your home, installation scope and warranty coverage. Bring us your quote and let’s take a second look.
